Old beta-player returns to play a necro...
Hey guys,
I was a long time player during the beta stages of GW but I stupidly took the route of WoW over GW (God have mercy on my soul), which after a long time of playing realized their pvp was flawed....so I'm coming back to GW! I've done my research and looking at all the GvG match tourney videos, there's no necromancers! I saw one, but he was just a necro/monk who healed in disguised....are they valid GvG classes? I'm just not seeing it....
Anyways, I'm debating on a few different builds to mess around with - please give any advice or suggestions/comments/flames/changes you'd think with the following ones. I'm really looking for a pvp focus, so keep that in mind and thanks ahead of time for any help. Here are the builds:
=Necro/Mes = Condition Popper=
General idea is to get everyone with all conditions via the Signet/Plague/Virul/Epi combo, then use corpses as weapons later. Nice little anti-minion build too I might add although I never saw one MM build in GvG...
Rising Bile
Signet of Agony
Plague Sending
Virulence (E)
Epidemic
Putrid Explosion
Consume Corpse
Death Nova
=Necro/Elem = Swing and a Miss=
I just remember liking Blurred Vision and Price of Failure in the beta, and with some new additions like Reckless Haste I think it'll work good but I've no idea how to finish out this combo...and it's really anti-melee but does jack to casters.
Glyph of Lesser Energy
Blurred Vision
Spiteful Spirit (E)
Reckless Haste
Price of Failure
=Necro/?=
Don't know where I'm going with this one, just a nice little insta-AoE heal/drain I noticed. Maybe add this 2-spell combo into the Swing/Miss group for more anti-melee?
Enfeebling Blood
Oppresive Gaze
=Necro/? = Anti-Enchantment spiker=
Now this is the kicker, I like this combo. Pain someone, then Gaze to strip all enchantments and do damage - but then I need to finish him somehow. Then I need someway to cast Pain faster (anything that lowers recharge time? Don't care on 2nd profession, just whatever works) across a group and drop a well of the profane to Pain everyone. Still fleshing it out, any help would be nice...I'm just working on it now. Maybe add Desecrate/Defile Enchantments? But then Gaze doesn't work....
Gaze of Contempt
Pain of Disenchantment (E)
Well of the Profane

This build is looking like an attempt to modify the classic Virulence/Epidemic spreader.
Unfortunately, you're using two pretty slow skills to start off the chain of what you're really gettting to - Virulence.
I'd go more direct - start with the quick casting Enfeeble, then Virulence, then Epidemic. That's a quick -8 health degeneration + weakness to all enemies in three skills, covering about 3 seconds (when aftercast times are considered).
Regarding your other uses of the build, I like the corpse denial skills combined with your Death Magic attribute. Death Nova really isn't needed, as you won't have anything meaningful to Nova without minions, etc.
So, that's five skills taken up (6 when you put the mandatory Rez Signet in), which leaves you two more to play with. You could always replace Enfeeble with the classic Phantom Pain/Shatter Delusions combo (for a spreadable deep wound), but that takes a bit longer to get off.
Happy hunting!

Well, few things.
1) Signet of Agony is a bit better than Enfeeble, because it causes bleeding (Virulence doesn't) and it lasts for 25 seconds...*and* it does damage. It may be slower, but I'm really thinking it's a better starter since it's a lot more painful.
2) Rising Bile really isn't a condition, it's just something you want to hide underneath the other conditions so it lasts 30 seconds. It's 120 damage in an area at the end of it's cycle.
3) Death nova can be used on dying allies or even yourself if you feel like you're going to die - or you want to go out kamikaze style.
4) Rez Signet required eh? Man, times have changed :P

1) the problem with agony/sending is that it takes longer to get off, which means it is more likely spotted before you can get off the whole combo. additionally, it take up two slots as apposed to one. you arent going to see two many teams without any condition removal so you are gonna want to get this off as fast as possible. plus agony has a 15 sec recharge, meaning you will have a bit of downtime between each spread.
2) no way rising bile does any real dmg. it will be called out and removed before it has a chance to take its full effect. its a hex, so you cant hide it under conditions, you would have to bury it with other hexes.
3) as said, not really gonna want to be using nova, as it will mean yall are dying. never liked using a strategy that benefited from me dying.
4) yeah things have changed a good bit. unless you are a monk, rez sig is pretty much mandatory.

Not sure why you guys are saying it'd take a long time to land...Signet casts under a second and Plague Sending is 1 second - and I wouldn't want to do it more than every 15 seconds anyways because that's how long virulence lasts. Signet+PS takes exactly .75 seconds longer and does WAY more damage (25 second bleeding on everyone around + 37 compared to 0 from Enfeeble)
Am I missing something? And what about my Pain of Disenchantment build?

Necromancers don't have much of a place in GvG. They pop up in hex-heavy builds but are otherwise pretty worthless. In HA, death Necromancers had a bit of a place, but they ended up being cut fat when the format tightened up to 6 characters. In arena, hexers are fairly effective as your hexes rarely get pulled, but that's really the extent of it. Order of Pain / Order of the Vampire is available as well, but that's been run on Dervishes of late.
So basically you're left with hex builds and death guys when there will be a lot of corpses, and otherwise they're left on the sidelines.
Peace,
-CxE

Thanks, the exact kind of answer I was looking for. Just means I'll be playing a necro for fun and working on something else for GvG
